Our History
Our history helps us form our culture. All skaters on our club have come from different backgrounds. Their knowledge and experiences have helped shape our club to what it is today.
In 2008, our synchronized skating team was founded by Alix Birkemeier. After hard work with recruitment, the first official competitive season was in 2009. In 2011, Alison Wade, joined us with her extensive coaching experience with synchro.
In 2014, the intercollegiate team was founded by Megan Zimmerman. Alyssa Reder became the first intercollegiate coach for UMD.
Since both teams had a love for the ice and shared most of their members, many members in 2016, the synchronized and intercollegiate teams joined under the name: "UMD Figure Skating Club." The goal was to bring all skaters together under one name. During this time, our recreational team was also formed.
